Why Am I Slicing My Driver But Not My Irons

So i have a picture now, of a couple targets for my swing. But my driver has always given me fits, and lately has just come undone.

Why Do I Slice My Driver But Not My Irons - Must Read Before You Buy

The same swing faults that you find on a driver can affect all the clubs in your bag.

Why am i slicing my driver but not my irons. Why do i slice my driver but not irons? Not many people know this, and it’s only really an issue with bigger headed clubs (almost negligible with irons) but…… you could be slicing it because of a strike issue. Remember that in order to hit a slice, the club face is open coming thru the ball.

If you are striking the ball from the outside and coming inward, the longer the club, the more likely it will slice, and the shorter the club, the more likely it will hook. The longer shaft and low loft of the driver creates a larger arc and requires you to sweep the golf ball off the tee on the upward trajectory while irons have shorter shafts and require you to hit the ball first then the turf on the downswing. If your ball is starting straight, your path is not likely to far outside~in.

It has a different length and a different loft, and that’s going to also change the angle at which you connect with the ball. If you keep hitting the same awful slice with the same driver or iron, consider scheduling a golf fitting. A shorter driver would also likely make this much easier, and again may be a big part of the problem.

Since slicing is my problem; A more closed stance, ball further left in my stance (r. Understanding the difference in where the impact area is on the swing trajectory will clarify the difference and why there are different swings required for drivers and irons.

If you are hitting the odd fade with irons as well then you will have to take a look at your swing path, set up a camcorder or something behind you to film your swing then check it. The driver has a more upward angle of attack, which is a lot harder to control. An iron club, on the other hand, hits the ball in.

With the driver, my hands can't close the driver face quickly enough to bring the driver to the ball perfectly square most of the time, hence it cuts across and a fade/slice emanates. Its because you are coming over the top on your swing but you are able to square the clubface with the shorter clubs which creates the pull. My putting is not too bad, and short irons are average.

I can almost guarantee your swing faults happen with your shorter irons as well, it's just less pronounced due to the higher loft. Ensure your left wrist angle is in proper position, by way of your grip. Therefore, their impact on the ball varies.

Chances are you are hitting the ball with an out to in swing path which is putting the spin on the ball and turning it. Slicing driver but not irons. In the image below you can see in the left side the shaft is abouve the shoulder (slice)and in the one to the right is under the shoulder, more from the inside.

Having read all of these answers, i too hit my irons dead straight, but used to have a bad slice with a driver. It is caused from starting the down swing with the upper body (shoulders). The makeup of the driver.

There is of course more speed involved with your driver swing than your iron swings. Because whether you realize it or not, you. Your weight has not shifted forward fast enough.

The slice is not just limited to the driver. However, it goes even further than that. It sounds as if you have this problem.

The iron and driver club have different designs. There are a bunch of reason you may be slicing the ball, from improper grip, improper rotation, reverse pivoting, casting, coming over the top etc etc etc. Answering the question, “why do i only slice with my driver?” one of the biggest mistakes a golfer can make is assuming that their best iron swing should also be the best golf swing for their driver.

You need to swing more from the inside to stopcutting across the ball (ott). You slice your driver for the same reason but since it is a longer club it is harder to square the clubface Read that in a magazine and it fixed my slice.

This post about slicing and blocking in golf is in response to several requests related to a previous golf lesson video on my youtube channel about how to stop coming over the top.it is quite common to fix one problem in the golf swing like “coming over the top” on the downswing, and then start a new problem like blocking or pushing the golf ball. This generally is caused by 1. One of the main reasons why this happens is because of the simple fact that your driver has a different makeup to your irons.

Try and visualize and work on having you left palm (right handed) facing the sky as if to catch raindrops. Stop slicing your irons and start smashing them. The key in returning the club face to square and minimize the slice effect or remove it altogether.

With irons, the lighter heads enable the hands to turn the face, but often too quickly, causing the face to close on the ball and promoting a draw/hook. If your club isn’t the right fit for your golf swing ,. It’s more likely to open during the downward swing and alter the ball flight.
